Connecting to God - May 7th

Scripture Reading…1 Corinthians 6:19-20; John 14:23; Acts 2:38

Devotion

It can be hard to grasp the idea that God, the Creator and Sustainer of all things indwells my physical body. I mean, I see myself in the mirror every morning. I (Trae) know myself; I know how far I truly am from what I think He expects of me! And yet, this concept is as true as Creation itself! Christians are a habitat for Divinity!

When we accept this truth, we recognize that Scripture is God’s blueprint for His home. Through Scripture God is pouring a foundation, (1 Corinthians 3:11). He is building the structure, (Mathew 7:24-27). God is preparing a place from which He will impact the world, (Matthew 28:19-20). So, we too have work to do in this great endeavor! We should develop our minds to think like Jesus! Not just a body that goes through the motions, but a mind that actually thinks His thoughts, “Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” It’s such a high calling! And it’s why we should strive with all our heart to stay connected to God through reading His Scriptures! The Bible will help us re-align our thoughts and motives with His will. Inspired words will correct us and motivate us for His work being done both in our own hearts and in the hearts of those we might influence!

Yes, the Holy Spirit lives in you. This was God’s plan from the start! He loves you and wants to live through you! What an awesome God we serve that He would call us His own special people! Even in our mess, in our struggle with the flesh, our trouble and our rebellious sin. God chose to connect with us. To fill us with Himself, to re-create in us a heart set on fire for His love!
