Scripture Reading…2 Timothy 3:1-17

Devotion

Jesus told us that all authority had been given to him. ALL authority. When we become Christians we willingly and knowingly submit to that authority. In fact, when we confess Jesus as Lord, we are not just recognizing his standing in the world, we are recognizing his position in our lives as well. So, how does Jesus relay what he wants of his followers, how does he get his will in our hands? He gets it to us through the Holy Spirit inspired word of God that we call the Bible.

Jesus did not leave us to figure it all out by ourselves. In fact, he didn’t want us to guess about who we are called to be and what we are supposed to doing under his authority. Instead, he left his word, to guide us, to inspire us, to teach us, to train us, and to equip us. “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

In other words, he has given us all we need to live under his authority. The question for us is, are we going to submit to that authority. It is not that what he desires hasn’t been revealed, the problem is that often times what he desires of us is difficult. It is difficult because it forces outside of ourselves and calls us to put the needs of others ahead of ourselves. It calls us to live and be different than what we see going on all around us. How are you doing with that?
